Has it ever happened to
you when the title of a movie or TV show reminded you of some sort of
technical program?
Maybe I’m a computer
geek, but when I see the title of the new Tom Hanks, Halle Barry
movie called “Cloud Atlas”, it subtly reminds me of all the cool
Cloud-based technology features that are present today – and how
quickly this industry has evolved in recent years.
Grab the tin-foil from
the kitchen, because I’m about to engage a conspiracy theory –
and GO.
Maybe this is actually
some sort of secret push by the computer software industry to push
Cloud-based software sales? And the topic matter of the movie could
suggest that by using Cloud-based technology, you can quickly access
all your data in real-time – and even with methods that are not as
obvious; like the movie and former book suggest.
For those who don’t
know the background of this story, Cloud Atlas is actually based on
an English Novel which contains six-different stories (all wrapped
together however through some of ‘Matrix’ – that’s a hint
btw). The stories travel from as early as the 19th century
to a post-apocalyptic future (kind of like the Matrix Movies – hint
#2). Now, here is where the book / movie will be interesting. After
each of the six stories are introduced to the reader / movie goer,
they are then transported back in time to wrap up each story – but
each is related to the other in some mystical way.
This is kind of similar
to Cloud-based technology. If you’ve got your company email,
records, files, and company data all accessible through one / easy to
access program, it allows you to have the ability to jump from
‘program to program’ easily and quickly.
The movie itself stars
Tom Hanks and Halle Barry which in itself is pretty impressive. But,
what’s cool to me and several other techno-geeks is that Tom Tykwer
and the Wachowski Brothers (*the guys who wrote the Matrix trilogy)
are the guys who directed this movie – which means there is some
sort of sub-plot or purpose to telling the story.
Now, I know it’s a
reach to assume they are being paid-off to promote the Cloud-based
programs and I honestly don’t think this is the case, but I do find
it strange and interesting at the same time that my mind instantly
thinks about those products.
Maybe I’m weak minded
and the Jedi Mind Trick works on me?
Regardless, this movie is
going to be wicked awesome. When you start with a very compelling
story and involve the Wachowski Brothers and Tom Tykwer in the story
telling aspect, you can be certain that this movie will make tons of
money. It just might also increase Cloud-based technology sales?
Ending Cloud Atlas
conspiracy theory – or am I? (End by inserting spooky music in your
head and evil laugh)
Very interesting subject, appreciate it for putting up.
